Creating Sustainability

Nonprofit Capacity Building | Organizational Development
Organizational development has been defined as the process through which an organization develops the internal capacity to be the most effective it can be in its mission work and to sustain itself over the long term. (from Nonprofit Expert)

Colleen works with the internal team to suss out their processes and procedures.  This starts with observing. Sometimes there is a process that needs to get out of the teams heads and onto paper.  When you’re trying something new, a process may be iterated and trialed multiple times.  Colleen works with you to determine what worked and what didn’t.  She makes it easy for the people who actually do the work to help define and document how they do it.

Once a process has been defined, written down, and trialed, the organization has the ability to engage in process improvement.
Process Improvement + Innovation

Without defined processes and procedures, daily activities don't usually lead to progress toward mission.  One person described her job this way: “I feel like I jump into the dryer each morning, get tumbled about, and then jump out at the end of a very long day - without finishing crucial tasks. The next morning, I jump into the dryer again.”

At the same time, systems should serve people, not the other way around. Colleen works with you to analyze the existing process.  Then she asks "How can this work better?". This gives a starting point to experiment, measure, and collaborate to find innovative answers to that question.

Project Coordination
If you have a project or process that needs oversight, Colleen can support you and your team. She has extensive experience and a "knack" for organization that leads to getting projects to successful completion.  And she documents what went well and what could be improved so that you can repeat the project again or use it as a template for other projects.
Free Exploratory Conversation
If you choose to have an exploratory conversation, you and Colleen talk about your needs and desired outcomes.  The objective is to determine the most valuable use of her time within the parameters of the issue or project, the goals of your organization, and your budget.  If you and Colleen decide to move forward, then you both sign a Professional Agreement that details how you will work together.
